Melas Kamal is the young son of Alex, the Rocinante’s pilot. Already a staunch, patriotic Martian, he sees his absent father as a warrior who left Mars to protect him and his mother. Instructions:

Honey-Almond Fizzy Candy: Bring 1 cup white sugar, 1 tsp honey & ¼ cup water to 305°F. Remove from heat. Add 1 tsp almond extract, 2 tbsp citric acid and 1 tbsp baking powder, mix and quickly spread thinly over a flexible surface covered in powdered sugar. Let cool, smash into fragments, and store sealed.

Cocktail: Use honey to rim a rocks glass with honey-almond fizzy candy. Pour orange juice and syrup into a mixing glass with ice and stir until cold. Strain into prepared glass over ice and top up with seltzer.
