Weeping Somnambulist
The Weeping Somnambulist was a Belt freighter carrying relief supplies and food to Ganymede after the battle there devastated the colony. Commandeered by the Rocinante crew to sneak them past Martian patrols, one of its crew was killed, but the other still helped refugees escape the station’s final collapse.
The gold rum in this drink is also the main ingredient in the Melissa Suputayaporn, posted nearly a year ago.
As usual, we’re using rum, and particularly non-white rums, for Belt ships. Partly because the world for liquor in LangBelta is “rowm”, and partly because Anderson Dawes orders “Dark rum, Javier!” as he sits next to Miller in a bar in S1E05 at 20:20.
Despite all that rum, we wanted to avoid having this feel “tiki” at all. The Somnambulist and its people have a hard life, not one of ease or fun. Therefore the cranberry, and to some extent the Amaro Nonino.
Ingredients:
- ¾ ounce black rum
- ¾ ounce gold rum
- ½ ounce cranberry juice drink
- ½ ounce Amaro Nonino
- ¼ ounce dry curaçao
Instructions:
Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass and stir with ice until cold. Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Twist a lime peel over the drink to express oils, then rim the glass and garnish with the peel.
