¿Y Qué?
The ¿Y Qué? was a slingshot racing pod, Manéo Jung-Espinoza’s pride and joy. In it, he set new records for close approaches and un-powered transits. When news of the Ring overshadowed Manéo’s slingshot exploits, he decided on the most audacious course ever: through the Ring itself. The unforgettable result ensured his name would live forever.
We enjoyed thinking a lot about the presentation for this drink. It’s served in a coupe, which has graceful curves, reminiscent of the orbital curves of a slingshotter’s course. The raspberry is also symbolic: it represents Manéo’s ultimate fate. (Sorry, Néo.)
Ingredients:
- 1 ounce mezcal (joven)
- ½ ounce aged (gold) rum
- ¼ ounce grapefruit juice
- ¼ ounce orange juice
- ¼ ounce orange curaçao
- 1 ounce lime juice
- ⅛ ounce velvet falernum
Instructions:
Cinnamon-Infused Bourbon: Roughly chop 3 cinnamon sticks. Infuse in 1 cup bourbon for 3 hours and strain well.
Cocktail: Pour all ingredients into a mixing glass and stir with ice until cold. Strain into a rocks glass over ice. Twist an orange peel over the drink to express its oils, then drop it into the glass.
